Paychex Flex Essentials
As its name suggests, the Paychex Flex Essentials plan offers the core payroll processing services needed for small businesses. It allows you to manage payroll and tax filings through the platform and is best suited for businesses with fewer than 20 employees.
Paychex Flex Select
The Paychex Flex Select plan builds on the Essentials package, adding access to employee online training courses and programs alongside payroll and tax filing services.
Paychex Flex Pro
Paychex Flex Pro is the most comprehensive option, designed for small businesses seeking a full-service solution. It includes payroll, tax filing, employee training tools, and additional HR resources. This plan also provides a personal consultation with a Paychex representative. Wage garnishment capabilities are included with Flex Pro, while they are available as add-ons in the Essentials and Select plans.
Features
Payroll
Paychex Flex simplifies payroll by allowing you to pay employees through direct deposit or by printing checks to distribute yourself. It also manages payroll taxes for you. The platform includes a self-service employee portal, where employees can independently access their pay stubs and tax forms.
Pay Contractors
With Paychex Flex, you can pay contractors via direct deposit or by printing and mailing checks, just like with employees. Contractors also have access to the self-service portal, where they can view their pay stubs and 1099 forms online.
Time Tracking
Paychex Flex doesn’t offer built-in time tracking, but you can add Paychex Flex Time, an additional service that integrates with Flex. This feature allows employees to track time, attendance, mileage, and more. Time tracked in the platform syncs with Flex, enabling automatic payments or reimbursements based on recorded data. However, Paychex Flex Time requires an extra fee as it’s not included in the standard Flex subscription.
Benefits Administration
Benefits administration is not included in the standard Paychex Flex plans, but you can purchase these features separately through the Paychex platform.
Analytics and Reporting
Custom analytics and reporting are available exclusively with the Paychex Flex Pro plan. The other plans do not include advanced reporting capabilities.
Accessibility
Employees can create a Paychex Flex account to access pay and tax details through the Paychex Flex mobile app. Employers can use the app to review and submit payroll, as well as view reports. If you add time tracking, it will require a separate app for that feature.
Compliance
Paychex has a team of compliance specialists dedicated to ensuring that your reporting and tax filings adhere to both state and local regulations. All Paychex Flex plans include new hire reporting for both employees and contractors. You’ll also receive current federal and state labor law posters, available in either print or electronic formats, to keep your workplace compliant.
Onboarding
Based on your chosen Paychex Flex plan, you can access features like electronic onboarding, job posting integration with various platforms, and an online employee handbook builder to streamline the hiring process.
Tax Filing
Paychex Flex simplifies tax management by automatically calculating, paying, and filing payroll taxes for each pay period.
Cash Flow Assistance and Financial Wellness
Paychex Flex provides employees with on-demand access to their earned wages, along with short-term loan options, to help them manage their finances between paychecks.
Learning Management System
The Paychex Flex Select and Pro plans include employee training and development courses, giving businesses the tools for professional growth. Additionally, all plans offer the option to create an online employee handbook through the platform.
